Oats

Oats

Oats do best when planted early on well-drained fertile soil, but can tolerate more acid and infertile soils. Oats continue to be popular, and are widely grown for grain and straw. They are also used for pasture, hay, or silage. Improved varieties of oats have boosted the yield potential. Oats are also a popular choice for a cover crop that will winter-kill (if no seed is produced). Seed at 2 bushels (~64 lbs)/acre.
