Compost sampling procedure

Compost sampling procedure

  1. Thoroughly mix the pile or windrow before sampling.
  2. Take 1-2 pint samples from 5 different locations of the pile or windrow. Each sample should be taken from 1-2 feet below the pile’s surface.
  3. Thoroughly mix all samples in 5-gal pail
  4. Fill a 1-quart plastic container or zip-lock bag with the mixture from the 5-gallon pail.
  5. Label the container with your name and sample ID that corresponds with the ID on the Compost Submittal Form.
  6. Send the sample immediately to the lab. Don’t bother drawing a sample if it can’t be sent right away.
